A birth chart is a map of the sky at one moment. It can describe tendencies, timing and themes, but it cannot remove a person's choices, and a responsible astrologer never speaks as if it could.
That means no predictions of death, no medical or legal diagnoses, and no readings designed to make someone afraid and dependent. Fear sells consultations; it does not help clients.
It also means privacy. Birth data identifies a person, so it should be stored carefully, shared with no one, and deleted when the client asks.
The best reading leaves the client clearer and more capable on their own. If a consultation ends with them feeling smaller, the astrology was used badly — whatever the planets said.
Ethics begins before the reading: be clear about prices, duration, what the reading can and cannot address, and how data will be kept. A client who knows the terms can consent properly.
During a reading, language matters. 'You will fail' is a prediction no chart can justify; 'this period asks for patience and careful planning' is an honest description of a pattern. The second leaves the client with agency.
Health, pregnancy, legal cases and money decisions deserve particular care. Astrology may describe stress or timing, but it must never replace a doctor, lawyer or financial adviser. A responsible astrologer says so plainly and recommends professional help when appropriate.
Readings about third parties need restraint. Analysing a partner's or colleague's chart without their knowledge can easily become intrusive. Synastry is best framed around the client's own experience of the relationship.
Avoid dependency. Weekly consultations about every small decision rarely serve the client. A good practitioner teaches enough of the chart's language that clients can carry the insight themselves.
Honesty also covers uncertainty: an unknown birth time, conflicting traditions, or an ambiguous pattern should be named. Admitting the limits of a method builds more trust than pretending to certainty.
Ultimately, ethical astrology is measured by its effect. Clients should leave calmer, clearer and freer to choose — never frightened, flattered into passivity, or bound to the astrologer.
